24-yr-old Barnala youth dies of cardiac arrest in Canada

Bathinda: A 24-year-old youth from Chhiniwal village in Barnala district of Punjab died of cardiac arrest in Surrey, Canada. The only son of a small farmer family, Baltej Singh had migrated to Canada two years ago in December 2023 on a study visa. As the family had only two acres of land, Baltej’s father Jagtar Singh was working as a conductor with a private bus company to supplement income and leased out the land.Chhinwal village former sarpanch Nirmal Singh said as the deceased belonged to a marginal farming family and Jagtar Singh had sent his only son to Canada by raising loans, gave his two acres of land on lease, and worked as a conductor with a private transport company. Baltej’s colleagues told the family on December 27 about Baltej’s demise, stating that when they tried to wake him up, he didn’t move. The villagers have urged the state govt to make efforts in bringing Baltej’s mortal remains back home as the family doesn’t have the no money to do so.
