HP govt to procure Rs 100cr worth of medicines for quality healthcare

Shimla: Himachal Pradesh chief minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu on Monday announced that the state govt would soon invite tenders worth approximately Rs 100 crore for procurement of medicines, ensuring participation from reputed pharmaceutical companies.Chairing a meeting with health department officials, Sukhu emphasised the need to provide quality medicines to patients visiting govt health institutions. He stated that drugs would be procured directly from manufacturers to ensure world-class medicines were available across the state. Sukhu also indicated that, if necessary, amendments to the Drugs Act would be made to safeguard public interest and maintain high standards in healthcare.

Highlighting ongoing reforms, Sukhu said the govt was continuously working to improve the state’s healthcare sector, with a focus on delivering top-quality medical services within Himachal Pradesh. He directed the food and civil supplies corporation to procure medicines for Jan Aushadhi and other outlets directly from pharmaceutical companies rather than through authorised dealers.Sukhu reiterated that while funds were available, public money must be used judiciously for the welfare of the people. He underscored that access to quality medicines was crucial for providing better healthcare and ensuring world-class health facilities for residents of the state.
