Nuh deputy civil surgeon held for taking Rs 50k bribe

Chandigarh: The Haryana Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) on Sunday arrested a deputy civil surgeon, posted in Nuh district, red-handed while allegedly accepting a bribe of Rs 50,000.The complainant told the ACB that he and his wife, a GNM degree holder, were running a hospital under the name ‘Labuja Karim’ in Punhana. Following an inspection by the health department on June 4, the facility was sealed and a case was registered at Punhana City police station.According to the bureau, Dr Manpreet, posted at Mandikhera Hospital in Punhana, allegedly demanded Rs 5 lakh to facilitate the de-sealing of the hospital and get the complainant and his wife’s names removed from the criminal case registered against them.Unable to arrange the entire amount, the complainant approached the ACB after managing Rs 50,000. Acting on the complaint, the the Gurugram unit of the ACB laid a trap and arrested Dr Manpreet while he was allegedly accepting the money. The bribe amount was seized from the accused’s vehicle.A case has been registered against the doctor under the BNS and Prevention of Corruption Act.Past casesThe arrest is the latest in a series of corruption cases involving doctors in Haryana. In 2025, the then chief medical officer of Palwal, Dr Jai Bhagwan, was arrested by the Vigilance Bureau for allegedly accepting a bribe. In previous years, doctors and health officials in districts including Panipat and Fatehabad have also faced action in graft-related cases, highlighting persistent concerns over corruption in the state’s healthcare administration.
