This comes after four Nihang Sikhs, arrested after the June 16 clash with local residents at Karnaprayag in Uttarakhand’s Chamoli district, were welcomed with religious honours at Gurdwara Singh Shaheedan in Sohana on Sunday, a day after securing bail from a court in Gopeshwar. The four, i.e., Satvinder Singh, Ajay Singh, Jasanpreet Singh and Manpreet Singh, were felicitated by acting Akal Takht jathedar Giani Kuldeep Singh Gargajj and senior Nihang leaders, including Budha Dal chief Baba Balbir Singh.Addressing the gathering, Gargajj said the bail reflected the unity of the Panth and asserted that efforts would continue to have the criminal cases quashed through legal means. He alleged that some mischievous elements had tried to create the impression that Sikh pilgrims would not be allowed to carry the kirpan while travelling to Hemkund Sahib, and urged the community not to be misled.Manpreet Singh, who suffered a fractured leg in the clash and was brought to Punjab from AIIMS-Rishikesh by ambulance, claimed the violence erupted after a motorcycle carrying the Nihangs allegedly brushed against a local resident in Karnaprayag market, triggering an altercation.Meanwhile, Haryana chief minister’s political adviser Tarun Bhandari said the annual Hemkund Sahib Yatra would continue peacefully with the cooperation of both the Uttarakhand govt and Sikh organisations. He said both sides would designate contact persons to address complaints and prevent similar incidents in future.
