MOHALI: The Samyukt Kisan Morcha (SKM) on Monday said it was awaiting a formal letter from the Punjab government recording the agreements reached with the farmers’ body and maintained that the commitments would remain “in the air” until they were put in writing.The SKM leaders Raminder Singh Patiala said they would accept the outcome of the discussions only if the government’s letter accurately reflected, point by point, the agreements reached with them.“All leaders of the SKM are waiting for the letter from the Punjab government. Once the letter is received, we will discuss its contents and then place the entire matter before the public before taking further step,” Patiala said.They said the government should first hand over the agreed letter to the SKM so that it could be examined before any reaction was announced.The farmers’ body also questioned why the agreements reached during Sunday’s meeting were not recorded in the minutes and signed by both sides.“Had the proceedings been recorded and signed, the matter would have been clear,” the leaders said.The SKM said it did not want to create any unnecessary controversy before receiving the official communication.It would study the letter and announce its response thereafter.Morcha has been set up at Chandigarh borders on September 1 and were allowed to hold protest till September 7.Morch now hints to continue holding the position till any written agreement copy is handed over to the SKM.
