Chandigarh: The paid parking lot at Elante Mall in the Industrial Area has emerged as the city’s top municipal earner, generating between ₹16 lakh and ₹20 lakh per month for the corporation.Official records covering the 75 paid parking lots that the civic body had managed from Jan through Sept 2026 identify the Sector 26 Idle parking lot and Sector 35-C as the second and third highest revenue generators. The Sector 26 site yielded ₹5.6 lakh to ₹8.1 lakh monthly, while Sector 35-C produced ₹5.5 lakh to ₹6.2 lakh.Despite recently making roughly half a dozen parking sites free for commuters, total municipal revenue from all 75 lots ranged between ₹95 lakh and ₹1 crore every month over the nine-month period.Parking lots in prominent commercial and tourist locations — including Sector 17, Sukhna Lake, Sector 22, Sector 34, and Kiran Cinema — each collected between ₹1 lakh and ₹4 lakh monthly. Officials attributed the consistent collection to point-of-sale (PoS) ticketing machines, regular field monitoring, and spot checks on parking attendants.“In a bid to plug the gaps and ensure the full collection of daily revenue from the paid parking lots, over a couple of months back, the civic body deployed engineering staff to keep vigil on the parking employees and their working,” a source told The TOI.The civic body deploys 283 workers — primarily outsourced ones — across its parking sites, varying allocations based on capacity.
