Kataria announces monthly review meetings with RWAs | Chandigarh News
Chandigarh: Administrator Gulab Chand Kataria on Sunday said the administration will hold monthly review meetings with the Chandigarh Residents Associations Welfare Federation (Crawfed) to address civic concerns. The meetings will be chaired by Hitesh Puri and held for one hour every Wednesday of the month.Clarifying recent action by the Chandigarh Housing Board (CHB), Kataria said only encroachments on govt land were removed, adding that the drive was carried out on court directions in a contempt case, in which residents had approached the court.On infrastructure, the administrator said he had taken up the issue of damaged roads with the Centre and Rs 125 crore had been secured for the MC to undertake repairs across the city. Addressing law and order, he said the focus remains on ensuring that offenders are apprehended within city limits.On water availability, Kataria urged residents to reduce wastage, citing practices such as overfilling tanks and excessive car washing. Regarding urban transport, he said expanding electric bus services would be more practical and cost-effective than a metro project, adding that even free bus services would be more economical compared to metro costs.He also suggested that officials and residents spend a day walking or cycling across the city to better understand on-ground conditions.During the interaction, Puri submitted a memorandum raising concerns related to law and order, senior citizens and housing board issues.
