Chandigarh: A discrepancy in the final answer key of the Punjab State Teacher Eligibility Test (PSTET-1) 2025 released on Sunday has triggered concerns among candidates, with allegations that an error has cost some aspirants crucial marks.PSTET-1, conducted by Guru Nanak Dev University on behalf of the Punjab government, is a mandatory eligibility test for recruitment of primary teachers (Classes I to V). The exam comprises 150 multiple-choice questions carrying one mark each. To maintain transparency and curb malpractice, the question paper is issued in four sets, Codes A, B, C and D, with the same questions arranged in different sequences.According to candidates, the final answer key released on Sunday shows inconsistencies across these sets. Two questions- numbered 37 and 89 in Code A, 55 and 81 in Code B, and 44 and 70 in Code C- have option B marked as the correct answer. However, in Code D, the corresponding questions (59 and 74) have different answers indicated, with option A marked correct for one and option D for the other.Candidates allege that this inconsistency has resulted in a loss of two marks for those who received Code D, potentially impacting their qualification status in a highly competitive exam.Sukhbir Singh, one of the affected candidates, said, “The same questions have been evaluated differently across sets. This is not a minor discrepancy, it directly affects results. Candidates with Code D are at a disadvantage due to no fault of their own.”Aspirants have demanded that the university review the final answer key, correct the discrepancies, and award appropriate marks to those affected. They have also sought accountability, urging authorities to examine how the error occurred despite multiple stages of verification.The development has added to anxiety among candidates awaiting results.
