Muddy fields trap thieves’ vehicles, foil transformer heist | Chandigarh News
BATHINDA: For a Swift car and the recovery truck sticking in the mud in the fields of Takhtupura village in Moga prevented a suspected theft of electricity transformer. The police have arrested one if the accused while two others are at large.As per information a plan was afoot to steal a transformer from the fields at Takhtupura village and some people came in a Swift car on a small Kutch a stretch of road nearly 100 feet deep into the fields from the Link Road. For their bad luck the car got stuck in the mud developed upon irrigating the paddy fields as the approach to the transformer from the Link Road was narrow.The truck brought by them in reverse gear to load the stolen transformer too stuck in the muddy stretch of Kutcha passage in the field of farmer Harjinder Singh.All this happened on late Saturday and they left leaving behind both the vehicles and returned on Sunday morning to retrieve the vehicles but the villagers led by farmer Harjinder Singh confronted them and asked their motive to reach on kutcha passage in the fields, to which the accused failed to give any satisfactory reply and the matter was reported to the police as the villagers caught one of the accused, identified as Lovepreet Singh of Alkara village in Barnala district, and handed him over to the police.A case has been registered against Lovepreet Singh of Alkara village in Barnala, Jasdeep Singh of Khote village in Moga and Wakil Singh of Goniana in Bathinda.DSP Nihal Singh Wala Anwar Ali said that case has been registered against three and one person has been arrested. The police have seized both the vehiclesPolice are also investigating whether the accused may have been involved in earlier incidents of transformer and electricity equipment theft in rural areas.There are complaints of numerous instances of the theft of transformers, cables and motors from fields. In the recent some farmers had put up a poster asking thieves not to steal motors and put down your bank account details and they will deposit the money in their accounts.
