Dr Minakshi’s husband, an eye surgeon, faces charges of abetting suicide after his wife was found dead.

JALANDHAR: A 37-year-old doctor was found dead in her home in Jalandhar on Wednesday, leading to an FIR against her husband, an eye surgeon, for allegedly abetting her suicide.The couple was married for around six years but Dr Minakshi was living separately for the past year, said police. While she worked at Kapurthala Civil Hospital, her husband Dr Piyush Sood runs a hospital on Kapurthala Road in Jalandhar.According to the complaint lodged by Minakshi’s father, Parmod Kumar, a resident of Jalalabad, she took a loan of Rs 35 lakh soon after her marriage to help her husband open his hospital and repaid the loan from her salary.In 2023, she came to know that her husband was having affairs and found a video of him with another woman, the FIR says. The complainant has handed over this video clip to police.Kumar said they advised Dr Sood to mend his ways and save the marriage, but he allegedly started assaulting her. “In 2025, he tried to strangle my daughter. She reported this on the police helpline. After this incident, she started living separately in a rented house,” says the complaint.When she tried to buy a house for herself in Jalandhar, she learnt from a CIBIL check that her husband had taken a loan of Rs 2.5 crore in her name without her consent, alleges her father.“She called up her husband and father-in-law, Yogeshwar Sood, asking them to remove her name from the loan, but her husband started threatening her. She was living under great stress, due to which she committed suicide,” Kumar says in FIR.A case has been registered at Division No. 6 police station under BNS Section 108 for abetment of suicide.TOI tried to contact Dr Sood but his phone was switched off.
