BJP’s Akshita Saini elected Ambala mayor | Chandigarh News



Ambala: BJP candidate Akshita Saini won the Ambala City municipal corporation mayoral election by 21,358 votes on Wednesday, securing 52,794 votes against Congress candidate Kulwinder Kaur Saini’s 31,436. Independent candidate Sonia Chaudhary polled 21,730 votes.The BJP also dominated the ward elections, winning 16 of the 20 seats. Congress won three wards, while one seat went to an independent candidate.Ambala DC and district election officer Ajay Singh Tomar and returning officer-cum-ADC Virat handed over certificates to the winning candidates.Among BJP winners were Vishal Chaudhary (Ward 1), Varkha Rani (2), Manish Anand (3), Varinder Nath (4), Rajesh Mehta (5), Archana Chhibber (6), Monica Mal (7), Shivani Sood (9), Gurvinder Singh (10), Kavita Ashu Saini (11), Kamal Kant Gupta (12), Shobha Singh (13), Nikunj (16), Gurpreet Singh Sahni (17), Hitesh Jain (18) and Sapna Rani (20).Congress winners included Gurjit Kaur (Ward 8), Poonam Vishu Sharma (14) and Puneet Kavi (19). Independent Manoj Sharma won from Ward 15.Haryana chief minister Nayab Singh Saini, former minister Aseem Goel, BJP district president Mandeep Singh Rana and other BJP leaders congratulated Akshita on her victory.Calling the result a reflection of public faith in the BJP govt, Akshita said she would focus on development, sanitation and civic amenities.Former minister Aseem Goel said the victory showed people’s trust in the policies of chief minister Nayab Singh Saini. “The CM has a vision to develop Ambala as a metropolitan city and industrial hub, besides addressing flood drainage and beautification,” he said
